Trust and Obey

2 Samuel 24:17

“When David saw the angel who was striking down the people, he said to the Lord, “I am the one who has sinned and done wrong.  These are but sheep.  What have they done?  Let your hand fall upon me and my family.”

// THOUGHTS:

.. The heart of a leader is to take the blame on them.  When David realized what he has done and the Lord has struck them down with a plague, he saw that many people died.  He took the blame for what brought forth the plague.  It was David’s disobedience to the Lord.

.. Our disobedience to the Lord can not only cause us to already sin against God, but it also affects people around us.  Our decisions are crucial that we need to realize the gravity of what we do.  Depending on the gravity and enormousness of our influence, it is possible that we could affect more people because of a decision (big or small).

12 "When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the LORD a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.  (Exodus 30:12)

.. It was lawful to count the census (JFB) – hence, the Lord would not bring a plague if this was to be done.  But David didn’t so but rather trusted in his army.  This offended God (JFB).  Who wouldn’t?  If I (someone who had a plan and knew what I am doing) called someone to do something and did otherwise against what I asked to do, I would be offended too because the person did not trust that I’ve already seen what was going to happen if he would just obey.  In the same way, the Lord just did them justice for what David did.

.. Therefore, it is highly important to make sure we assess ourselves.  We need to heed God’s call in our lives.  There will be specific personal calls God tells us to do.  Just like David who was called to “Go and take census of Israel and Judah.” (v. 1b) but rather counted the fighting men instead (something that was offensive to God), there was a consequence to it.

.. So, what is it that God call is calling us to do at this point?  Are obeying His call in our lives?  Whether it be something small or big, the most important thing is to heed what God calls us to do.  No questions asked.  We must learn to trust that God foresees everything ahead of us and He knows what is best for us.  Let us trust Him and obey Him in ALL that He says we must do.  After all, what is life all about?  It is all for the glory of God.

// BELLE:

.. I will be wasting my time if I am not trusting and obeying the move of God in my life.  The call that God has for me are specific and I must obey that.  Whether it be callings of small matters or big matters that will affect my future, I will heed.  I will not do otherwise for it not only will bring a “plague” in my own life, but it will affect others.  I must be careful.

.. Again, TRUST His power and OBEY His call.  [No human effort, trust in His own time, be faithful with where I am at, be the answer and not allow the answer to rise someplace else because I am placed to such a time as this for that reason, obey EVERYTHING He’s commanded and called me to do)

// Lord, I’m bombarded by Your Word.  Help me to trust you more than I am now.  Help me to obey you even more than I am now.  More of you and none of me.  I pray that you will just strengthen me.  Help me to be more organized with the things I have to do that I may be faithful with what you are calling me to do.  There are more things to do and I admit that sometimes I am focusing my energy on thoughts that are currently out-of-timing.  Things will fall into its place if I trust in You, I know that.  I pray that you will help me to keep my eyes on You.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
