Week 2 Day 7
Genesis 34-36; Luke 14
Luke 14:12-14
12Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
// THOUGHTS:
Mainly talks about our motives when we "host" things - are we doing it so we can be repaid back? Or are we doing it and it doesn't matter if we get repaid for it or not but just let God do the blessing part? It is an examination of the heart (motives) that we have to do daily. Whether it be for when we are "hosting" for something or doing something for someone, let it be that our intentions are always because we want to serve not because we want to be repaid back.
// BELLE:
I always have to have the "no need to pay back" mindset in all aspects, not only on the lovable ones, the easy to get along with ones, or the "outsiders" but especially to those who I know have nothing to pay back with. It's easy to do goodwill to those who I know are able to pay back or give something back, but in the same way Jesus was telling the Pharisee's about this lesson, I also must heed this lesson that Jesus gave.
The No Pay Back Principle is doing goodwill to all people whatever status of life they are in.
// LORD, forgive me if I've had this mindset at times. I ask for Your power to always remind me of the importance of this principle. Yes, it's true that there are times it is really hard to do goodwill to those I know who will not give back any good in return; but that is not what You taught. I pray that I will be submissive to Your will, to serve others without asking or expecting anything in return. I am ultimately serving You in all that I do, help me to always think of only doing what pleases You and not what I can get out of it. In Jesus' name, amen.
