In the context of Demetrius and Diotrephes, John has encouraged to follow the the testimony of Demetrius -- one who has good reputation, not just a wanna be leader but one who has true credibility by truth itself. It always tells us who is 'for God' and those who are 'against God' by their actions.
This is a reminder for me -- to always keep my actions pure before the Lord thus truth reveals itself, thus building its own credibility. It also reminds me who to follow -- not just those who wanna be leaders and lord things around but does not necessarily do well with their actions. I need to be following the example of those who are I. The Truth!
Lord, for the non obvious things, please help me to determine which leaders to follow and those with good credibility according to Truth. I want to be the same as a leader... Thank you for this Word. You are timely and worthy to be praised! In Jesus' name, amen
