Just before dawn Paul urged them all to eat. “For the last fourteen days,” he said, “you have been in constant suspense and have gone without food—you haven’t eaten anything. Now I urge you to take some food. You need it to survive. Not one of you will lose a single hair from his head.” After he said this, he took some bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat. They were all encouraged and ate some food themselves. (Acts 27:33-36 NIV)
Food is such an important aspect of our bodies and lives in general. That is pretty self explanatory and we all know that without food, after a while, we would eventually die. Though Paul is speaking in this passage in a physical perspective, there is a major parallel in the area of our spiritual lives. Why we are in a constant suspense, it is easy to let go of 'food' for the soul. We end up starving ourselves by depriving ourselves with the necessary nutrients our spiritual bodies need in order for us to survived. Definitely, the suspense of life can cause us to spiritual starvation.
It is important that, regardless of the suspense life brings (the storms, the uncertainty of whether we will survive or not, the thoughts of strategies on how to rock the boat further to shore), we continually feed ourselves with the necessary spiritual food. First of all, the Bible - the encompassing knowing of God and constant reminders of His promises. As well as the constant learning for new ideas and strategies that will feed the creative soul that's us so we do not lose hope -- by having a fresh mindset of things looking forward to what's ahead. Setting aside any fears and unbelief that God Has the entire capability to bring us out of the most impossible, and even dying situations.
Personally, today I bought a new travel Bible and a new ideas book to read on for new ideas as well as having no excuse not to bring a physical Bible (not just an app). I definitely need this kind of food for myself. I have been pretty hungry and have starved my spirit with God's real food and gourmet ideas that I know God can bring and prepare a table before me. I am diving in daily.
Lord, please help to be intentional in setting time to eat real spiritual food, not just fast food. Please help me to develop this habit again. I will do my best but I cannot do this without your power. So I just commit these to you and offer every bit of it at your feet. In Jesus' name, amen.
