The Body

Wk 29 Day 2

Leviticus 18:30
30 Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the LORD your God.' "

This chapter thoroughly goes over various "what not to do" with regards to "unlawful sexual relations". To sum it all up, God's command is to keep our bodies pure and blameless (free of defilement - foulness, uncleanliness, body pollution) as it belongs to the Lord. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 says,

18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

We must not allow anything that comes in our body or we allow to do to our body that will pollute us or "dirty" it for anything that belongs to the Lord must be kept pure. God is holy and everything of Him must be kept holy as well. If our body belongs to God for He lives in us, therefore, we who have given the will to take control of our body, must then keep it pure and clean as well as we are instructed to do.

How can we keep it pure?

9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
Psalm 119:9

:: Although there are things for my body that I can control, I know I need to also be watchful in what I do with it. Even if the book of Leviticus talks mainly about sexual sins, the principle of keeping my body pure is important also with regards to what I do with it - the food I eat, how I take care of it and what I do to keep myself healthy and strong.

[Recently, I haven't been feeling very well - stomachache and headache. I need to learn to control what I eat, especially drinking enough water to sustain my body's needs. ]

>> Lord, thank you for reminding me the importance of taking care of my body as Your temple. Please help me to be an example and that it will serve as an encouragement to them, not to make people think that it's for pleasing someone or vanity. Help me to also not make that as my main motivation - although that is just the surface of the real motivation. My inmost motivation should be because I want to please YOU who lives in this temple! Help me to be an encouragement with my body (as weird as that sounds). You know what I mean, Lord. :) Thank you, in Jesus' name, amen.
