Is it "spied" out?

Wk 42 Day 2

Deuteronomy 1:22-26, 29-30

22 Then all of you came to me and said, "Let us send men ahead to spy out the land for us and bring back a report about the route we are to take and the towns we will come to."

23 The idea seemed good to me; so I selected twelve of you, one man from each tribe. 24 They left and went up into the hill country, and came to the Valley of Eshcol and explored it. 25 Taking with them some of the fruit of the land, they brought it down to us and reported, "It is a good land that the LORD our God is giving us."

26 But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God.

29 Then I said to you, "Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. 30 The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes,

// Leadership Ideas:
.. "spying" out the land first to make sure the route to be taken is good (think, plan, making sure the foundation is firm)
.. Moses sent out people to do it - 12 from each tribe (he didn't do it himself, he found help from others since there were so many of them - delegation)

// Personal Insights:
.. once the road and the place has been "spied" and got the results of it (v. 25) that it is a "good land that the Lord is giving...", a wise "risk" can be taken - taking hold of the promise of God (that He was going to give them their promised land)
.. remember, the wisest risks are taken after it has been prayed, talked to God with, planned, checking the foundations, etc.

Why weren't they able to get to the promised land except for Joshua and Caleb?
.. Because even if they knew that God's promise was sure and they even had it tangibly sure by spying it out first, they were UNWILLING; they REBELLED, they GRUMBLED against God.

// SO...

.. To get to where God wants us to go, we must first learn to TRUST in the promises of God for us - know them and find out what they are for you and me.
.. Once we know what they are, we must BE WILLING to take the risk of stepping into it after getting soaked ("spying out the route") in prayer and seeking God's will.
.. DO NOT REBEL NOR GRUMBLE in the process; stay joyful and obedient to the Lord's command. Delight in what's coming ahead even if things aren't going the way we think it should. We do not see the big picture, HE DOES!
.. TRUST that the Lord will bring you through it just as He has brought you where you are now.

// BELLE
.. mmmmmmm (point point point!)
.. TRUST
.. I need to continue to know and be confident in the promises that God has for me
.. I will take the wise risk, once I know it's ready - I believe the Holy Spirit will let me know!
.. I gotta be ready to step on it
.. I MUST NOT GRUMBLE or COMPLAIN or BE REBELLIOUS - not even a hint!
.. TRUST (again and over and over)

// OH LORD, how awesome are you that even with this story of the Israelites thousands of years ago, you speak to me of your amazing love, grace, power, and awesomeness. Forgive me for the times I grumbled, doubted, complained, and even distrusted your Word and your promises. Please guide me through this process that I will always give glory to You in ALL that I think, say, or do. I just want to give glory to YOU! In Your Son's name, Jesus.. AMEN.
