Wk 48 Day 3
Nehemiah 4:14, 17-18, 20
14 After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes."
17 who were building the wall. Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, 18 and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. But the man who sounded the trumpet stayed with me.
20 Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!"
// Principles:
.. In spite of oppositions, a leader keeps his/her composure.
v. 14 - Nehemiah knew that there were problems arising as they were rebuilding the wall. [the people opposing, and the builders were physically getting tired, must be terrified with the threats]. Regardless, he did not show that he fretted [but for sure, he was also just as terrified as everyone else]. He still encouraged the people to not be afraid and reminded them that God is a great God who will fight for them!
.. A leader finds wise strategies to fight opposition without lagging the project.
v. 17 - Nehemiah had each worker hold a weapon while they work. Why? In case in the middle of them working an attack might be made by the opponents. With that, they'll be ready anytime.
.. A leader promotes unity.
v. 20 - Nehemiah promoted unity. "Whenever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us." They may have their own sections in rebuilding the wall (chapter 3) while carrying a weapon in case of an attack, but Nehemiah while administering, had the trumpet player walking around with him. For what? So in case an attack is made on one side, everyone else will know and will fight together - leaving their work and helping in fighting whichever area is being attacked.
// BELLE:
.. Do I keep my composure during an opposition?
.. As I help "build the wall" in my "section", am I ready to face the oppositions as I continue to do the work and not lagging it? Am I encouraging others to do the work with readiness, encouraging them to not be afraid if something/someone is trying to stop the work?
.. Am I person who promotes unity in any unit I belong to [family, church, friends, etc]? Or do I continue in my little section of the work while the other part of the wall is being attacked? Am I ready to fight with my brothers and sisters?
I always need to be ready - to fight the battles in life - whether I am being attacked in my little section, or if other parts of the unit is being attacked - I need to make sure I am ready to do this. I know with God's help, I am able to fight because it is not me who will, but HIM who enables me!
During an opposition, or maybe a time where man naturally frets, I must remain in my composure. Not to freak out immediately, but think quick and thinking about how God would want me react in that situation. I must remain an encourager to others; not to freak them out but to keep them hopeful in God's mighty hand.
// Lord, I do not know exactly what is awaiting me. I pray that you will keep this banked in my heart - your Word that is living and active - that when I have apply this today or the days to come, I will be ready to face it. God you are an awesome God. I trust in You and I will remain in Your care. Help me to become the person you want me to be. In Jesus' name, amen.
