Week 2 Day 5
Genesis 29-30; Luke 12
Genesis 29:20 (NIV)
So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.
Luke 12:30-31 (NLT)
These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.
// THOUGHTS:
For Jacob, waiting 7 years was an act of true love. Even though there were many things that happened after that (marrying Leah as the firstborn), his love for Rachel didn't waver.
It "seemed like only a few days to him" is the outcome of one that is happily waiting for something to happen - he was sure that he was going to get her as his wife, so it seemed quick; it passed by -the days gone by quick.
Jacob was also known to be a great manager of Laban's livestock (Gen. 30). So, personality-wise, Jacob was a smart man and had great strategies. With that, in relation to him waiting for Rachel, implies he used his wittiness as he waited - he focused his attention to tending and increasing Laban's livestock while he waited (using his talents and abilities to be productive rather than rot whilst he waited).
Principles to learn:
_while waiting for anything, refocus attention to what will make us productive instead of rotting in boredom by using our talents and abilities to be productive
_true love can really wait
_true love conquers all things
_true love sees obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow
// BELLE:
This is what I am doing - waiting, being productive, and "testing" my true love (to see if I really feel or am that). An affirmation and a reminder of what I need to be. The Lord knows what I need and there's no point of worrying (though Luke emphasizes on the worrying of material things), therefore, I must focus on seeking God - knowing Him more and ALL the things needed at the right time and place, He will provide. No worries. God is in control.
// LORD, thank you for an awesome reminder of what true love really is. I know there are still a lot of things you are working within me so I can be prepared for that day when you want me to take on another level of responsibility. For right now, I pray that you help me intentionally refocus my attention to what will help me to be productive - not boring myself out of worrying what's going to happen next. What will separate me from the "pagans" is that I am not worrying about the trivial things in life - material things. I know I've worried the other day about financial provision, but You are my Provider - Jehovah Jireh. I will give this up to You wholly and fully. Thank you for being so good, faithful, and never changing. You are good to me, I praise You! In Jesus' name, amen.
