At first glance:
v. 5 – They were celebrating with all their might
.. It is perhaps, during a time of celebration when people do not necessarily think about what their doing; they’ll end up doing something that might not be pleasing to God?
.. Uzzah might have lost his sensible mindset and was feeling contempt about what’s around him'
.. Lesson: Don’t be too comfortable; always give reverence to things (of course, of various levels; God’s being of highest reverence)
v. 6 – Uzzah reach out and took hold of the ark because the oxen “shook” (KJV)
.. Uzzah could’ve let it just go; even if the ark fell because the oxen shook, it was not Uzzah’s responsibility to “take hold of the ark”
.. It was considered a irreverent act to God. Why?
.. They weren’t supposed to be touching the ark – it’s that important, reverential, only God can touch or even command for it to be moved.
.. Uzzah “took control” of the situation by deciding to reach out and take hold of the ark as the oxen shook it. Regardless if it was shaken, God had ultimate control of things.
.. Lesson: When we try to control things in life instead of allowing God to take control, it can be an irreverently acting against the power of God – the power that He is sovereign over all things! Even if things “shake”, don’t “reach out to take hold of it”; allow God to take control of the situation. Just continue in praising Him instead.
v. 7 – The Lord’s anger burned for what Uzzah did
.. God took control of Uzzah and showed the people how sovereign and holy He is.
.. Lesson: When we provoke God’s anger, we cannot handle it. Submit to Him and let Him take control.
>>>
Letting God control situations in my life while I just keep rejoicing and worshipping Him. Even if things “stumble” and “shake”, I know that God already sees those things come to pass and He’s already got a prepared solution for things. All I gotta do is to believe and trust that He’s got it all under control. I am frail and I cannot handle my own situation. But with God, I know He will handle it all for me. My trust in Him is an act of reverence.
>>>>
Lord, thanks for such a beautiful lesson of letting You control when things start to “shake”. I do not need to “take hold” of things because You got them in Your hands – all prettied up and organized. I let You be the way You want things to be. I will just praise and worship you – go on with a fruitful and worshipful life. No matter what, I know I can trust in You. I love You, Jesus. I lift this to You in Your name, amen.
