The Prescribed Way

1 Chronicles 15:11-15

¹¹ Then David summoned Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel and Amminadab the Levites. ¹² He said to them, “You are the heads of the Levitical families; you and your fellow Levites are to consecrate yourselves and bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it. ¹³ It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the LORD our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.” ¹⁴ So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves in order to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the Levites carried the ark of God with the poles on their shoulders, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.

God is organized enough to have things done in “the prescribed way”.  With the Levitical priesthood, there was a prescribed way to do things on how and who’s to carry the ark of the covenant – and the Levites were in charge.  But because they didn’t do it right the first time, the Lord got angry and things didn’t go the way they should’ve gone.  Now that they’ve learned, they did it right “as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the Lord.”

There are times we learn it the hard way and sometimes, we just learn it because we went “in accordance with the word of God”. 

For me, I’d rather learn it according to God’s Word – that is the best.  Because He has his best and pleasing way of doing things that will direct to  His path and to His perfect will.  Why would we settle by doing things the hard way? 

Lessons:

.. Learn the “prescribed way” of doing things in life through the Word of God. 

.. We can trust that God’s ways are always the best; it is what pleases Him and ultimately leads us to doing it His way.

.. Be willing to do it "the prescribed way” to avoid regrets and consequences after [like God getting angry at the Israelites for not doing it right in carrying the ark.]

.. God’s ways are laid out in His Word; meditate on it day and night we know that our ways will be prosperous!  What else can you ask for?!  All are laid out.  We just gotta seek it out.  Don’t be lazy in doing so because it is worth it!

Lord, thank you for such a wonderful reminder that Your ways are always the best.  Thank you for the experiences that we learn daily and reminding me the importance of finding out Your “prescribed way” of doing things.  Help me to be discerning always in my quest for finding out Your will in my life.  As I go along, may You help me grab hold to Your empowerment that in everything I do, I will only do what You want me to do – to take the “prescription” exactly the way You want things to be “healed” or done.  Thank You Lord for Your ways are perfect and higher!  I worship You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
