Week 17 Day 1
1 Samuel 27; Ps. 141; 1 Chronicles 9; Matt. 10
Matthew 10:16 (KJV)
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
>>
.. Jesus knew that as believers, we are being sent out into the world like sheep among wolves (we could get devoured); He acknowledged that the world is like a wolf that could easily devour the sheep. However He encouraged us to…
.. BE WISE as serpents; cunning, sharp, shrewd, sage, sensible, sagacious, intelligent towards dealing with the world (the wolves we may encounter) and to be…
.. HARMLESS as doves; [sinless, virtuous; faultless, impeccable, spotless, immaculate], blameless towards evil.
Romans 16:19
“Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.”
.. In dealing with the world’s wolf-like nature, we ought to BE WISE and at the same time HARMLESS.
>>>
To be WISE is to KNOW & ACT UPON KNOWLEDGE.
To be WISE is to KNOW what is the ULTIMATE GOOD, who is God Himself and the things of Him.
To be HARMLESS is to be INNOCENT on other matters that does not concern our own business [like how doves, at a 1st degree perspective, are seen as one who does not care so much on what does not concern them]. Meaning, we only must be concerned about WHAT IS IMPORTANT, The Ultimate Good – God!
HOW?
To be WISE [sharp, sensible, intelligent, etc] is to keep learning about what is good in order to grow more in knowledge.
To be INNOCENT [blameless, faultless, etc] is to saturate with wisdom that there will be no room for the unnecessary foreign pseudo-knowledge.
Doesn’t mean we deny the knowledge of what is sinful – because we see that almost everyday around us. It is more of knowing MORE and be saturated on how to go against the evil surrounding us; how to act towards it in wisdom.
>>>>
Today, I will be WISE, SHARP, INTELLIGENT towards what is good – what pleases God and what His Word has commanded me to do that I may know how to deal towards the evil that is also around me, including the ones that may spring up from my own selfish desires and motives.
>>>>>
Lord, You are my source of wisdom. Please help me to know how to be wise in acting towards the evil things of this world including the ones that may birth within my selfish motives. I pray that You will empower me and that I will embrace that power to spring forward to what is the Ultimate Good – the things of You alone. Guide me today Oh Lord in what I need to do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
