1 Timothy 6:6
"But godliness with contentment is great gain."
There's always a correlation between material things, finances, and physical provision and contentment. This passage is generally about the Love of Money. It is possible to be acting godly in all other areas yet not fully content - still desiring more things, material things and money; carnal when it comes to the area of money. However, Paul was telling Timothy that godliness accompanied with real contentment is far better! Some people think that godliness is the way to financial gain (v. 5b). There may be some truth to that - yes God does provide and give us more than enough; however this motivation is also carnal and worldly.
We must leave up to God the outpouring of blessings as we continue to live in godliness. Do not entertain the thought of selfishness of being godly only for the sake of receiving and expecting blessings to come. Leave to God the liberty to give and provide and not coercing blessings in living a godly life -- or having the motivation to receive blessings "in exchange of" godliness. That is not what we are called to do. We are called to be GODLY and be CONTENT because that is GREAT GAIN - beyond finances and other physical blessing!
What is our motivation for being godly? Let it be plainly because God calls us so! Live a life of contentment as we live a godly life because that is great gain!
// Godly living. Contentment with life - finances, material things, etc. Blessings will come as the Lord pleases to give them.
Lord, I will live a godly life. I am content with what I have. Help me to always check my heart that my life reflects your grace and blessings from just delighting in You; being content and living a godly life. I will honor you with my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
