Joshua 2:8-13
8 Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof 9 and said to them, “I know that the Lord has given this land to you and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. 10 We have heard how the Lord dried upthe water of the Red Seal for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed.[c] 11 When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lordyour God is God in heaven above and on the earth below. 12 Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign 13 that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and that you will save us from death.”
I always had a hard time thinking how this was a "good thing" - what Rahab did and considered this as righteousness. Yet, the more I read it, I have been illumined by the fact that when we stand with the truth, the place where God's presence dwells, all else becomes ancillary. Hence, it was credited to Rahab as righteousness.
Have I always stood in the side of truth? When Rahab said "I know...." that means she really had the conviction that it was the right thing to do - and because she had this confirmed in her knowledge and heart. With that, she was able to stand for the side of truth. Not just any truth, but God's place - where He dwells. I need to always discern that what I am standing on is the truth. What comes to mind is work. I know that there has been a lot of things going on, yet, I know that I can stand on the side of truth at all times. When I am convinced of which side is truth, of God, and where God's Spirit dwells, then I know God will deliver. The other side of this is when we side of what's comfortable and easy. That is what we need to fight against with - if this is the default way to do it. Stand Up for the Truth!
Lord, I always do want to stand for the truth - not for what's comfortable and easy. Help me to be much stronger in this area. That I will know first of the conviction that you have set ahead of me. I pray that You will help me especially during the times when I choose the easy and comfortable. Thank you that Your truth does not waver nor change. I pray that You would guide me and be with me throughout the days. In Jesus' name, amen.
