Love contains no fear—indeed fully-developed love expels every particle of fear, for fear always contains some of the torture of feeling guilty. This means that the man who lives in fear has not yet had his love perfected.
This verse indeed has some profound and deep meaning. I personally do not always get this in all its angles. However, I know for a fact that God's love is perfect and it removes all kinds of fear - in death, in eternal separation from him, etc. Perfect love has no fear. Yet, it needs to develop in order for it to be expelled of every particle of fear. When we are still fearful - say, death for instance - we may have not yet been perfected in love that only God has and could provide.
A few things:
- Even if I am still developing in the love of the Lord and the understanding of it, daily I am being developed that every fear in me may be expelled due to the love of God
- What I know though is that the fear of death has been expelled from me already - I begin to fully understand that there is no fear in death because of the perfect love of Jesus
- On a practical side, I need to continually develop in the area of fully showing perfect love to others - romantic and platonic love.
- If I still fear, I indeed have not been made perfect in love (this is on a practical sense).
- I need to continually risk to love and trusting that as I remain in the perfect love of Jesus, I should be able to give a perfect love - as long as I am abiding in the love of Christ. I will allow Jesus to perfect my love in Him alone - not allowing my fears to cripple me from experiencing the greatness of love itself - Christ and the expression of love to fellow man.
// Lord, you know my struggles in this area. Especially to those who I have a hard time loving back because of the things in the past. Help me to continually just love as you do. I pray that You will guide me in my boundaries that I may still express perfect love in accordance to your ways and still experience the joy of that perfect love - both practically and in my relationship with you. I pray that You will guide me in my struggles that you will be glorified and that Your love will abound at all times. Thank You so much Jesus. You never fail to speak at perfect times. In Jesus' name, amen.
