Truth

When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day. (Matthew 28:12-15 NIV)

Interestingly and sadly, the soldiers just did what they were told. They could've found out themselves to see whether or not this is true.  Perhaps they did but doesnt necessarily mean that they did.. Perhaps some of them were afraid of the authorities.

Many are the same way. We are afraid to find out the truth for the sake of our jobs, positions, or what not.  When authorities tell us to do what is wrong or ungodly, we need to stand our ground - first, to fin out the truth then to speak up when necessary and appropriate.

I will find out the truth.  I will stand my ground by God's strength and grace.

Lord, help me to do what is right and to stand my ground whenever necessary and appropriate.  In Jesus' name amen.
