Jesus followed the "rules". But when the rules became above what is not of love and obedience to God Himself, Jesus "broke" that rule. Jesus knew how to prioritize the higher calling even above the "rules." He wasn't legalistic where He was bound with the rules. Though, each time a "rule" was "broken", it always led to a higher purpose and ultimately glorified His name!
We need to learn how to work with the "rules" but not let the "rule" work us in such a way that we become legalistic about what we do and don't do instead of going for the higher calling. If it would cause something to die or "break the rule" for the sake of life, we take the higher route.
I need to learn how to keep the rule under the higher rule when it's called for. Jesus knew exactly when to do it... he wasn't bound to the rules for He was above the rule. When a rule binds us which causes us to be more bound to the rule than have the right heart, we have become legalistic. Use wise judgment to take a higher route even if it "breaks the rule". After all, God is in control and He sees our hearts. As log as we remain under the covering of Jesus, we are okay.
Lord you see my heart. Forgive me for being legalistic on some things when I know you care more about my heart than my performance. Please help me to discern when to "break a rule" for the sake of a higher call. Lead me to your ways and to keep my heart on check with your ways esp when things are going "unconventional" on how we do things. Thank you Lord. Help me to understand this further in Jesus' name, amen.
