Acts 16:17-18 (AMP)
17She kept following Paul and [the rest of] us, shouting loudly, These men are the servants of the Most High God! They announce to you the way of salvation!
18And she did this for many days. Then Paul, being sorely annoyed and worn out, turned and said to the spirit within her, I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her! And it came out that very moment.
// THOUGHTS:
This girl had the reputation of predicting the future and coming true. Sure enough, she did. The fact is, she said what was true:
_Paul and Silas were men of the Most High God
_They announce to you the way of salvation
Those are true. But what went wrong when that could have been a "confirmation" to the people who might have believed in that girl's power to predict the future? Some possibilities:
_v. 18 - she did this for many days
_Paul was sorely annoyed and worn out, greatly annoyed and greatly disturbed [possibly, that God has poured out the discernment on Paul to distinguish that this is NOT God's way of revealing His salvation to the people - even though she was telling the truth]
_The enemy just used the girl to "spread the truth" in an out-of-order manner [God could reveal Himself in any way He wants to; and of course, in some sort of order because He is a God of order and peace.]
:: Principles //
_God is a God of order and peace. He will reveal Himself, His will, His truth, His ways in such a way that no one will (or for the most) be greatly annoyed, greatly bothered, greatly disturbed or worn out.
_God will provide us with discernment of when and where we need it [whether it be revealing His will or His plans that He's revealed to us about whether personally or corporately] to make sure we are not acting "out of order".
_Practically speaking, we need to be willing to have the right discernment (like Paul's) to distinguish which ones are being "out of order" or when it's time to reveal something.
_Self-control is necessary to be sure that it is the right time to reveal truth to any audience. There is a time for everything and we need to be aware when and how to do it.
// BELLE:
On my end, personally, I need to make sure I am discerning, having self-control, and aware of when or how to reveal or speak about God's truth. I'm talking about knowing the right timing for things - when to say it - that it doesn't get "out of order". I could be revealing something truthful or something that is actually God's will that He's revealed to me, but it could be that I will share it at the wrong time, hence ruining it overall.
Need to be:
_at prayer-mode always to be discerning
_when God reveals something to me, I must be waiting on when to share it that it doesn't become a disturbance or annoyance to some. It must be peaceful for the most part (of course, we can't please everyone, nor do some things are pleasing to the wrong crowd of people)
// LORD, it's interesting to see how your truth could be revealed wrong times that causes it to become out of order. It's true how the girl was telling your truth about Paul and Silas. But yet I saw that it was becoming an annoyance or disturbance to the point of it rather not told. Help me to be discerning when this happens or to occur. Whether it me or someone else, I pray that I will always be in order of Your perfect time and perfect order of things. Help me to distinguish when and how to do things - reveal the truth or even share something you have personally told me. I pray that You keep me in check and that my life is doing things in the order you want it to be - including the timing of things. Thank You Jesus, in Your name, amen.
