Week 18 Day 7
2 Samuel 11-12; Psalm 51; Matthew 23
2 Samuel 12:8-9
I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. 9 Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.
>>
- David had it all – Israel and Judah!
- Did he forget to count the blessings that he already had?
- He despised the word of the Lord by doing something sinful.
- It catered his flesh and catered his selfish desires.
- The Lord “would have given [him] more” if it “had been too little.”
- It’s almost like… he could’ve just asked or be grateful for what he already had instead of seeking for something he didn’t have or entertaining his selfish desires [the temptations]. What caused so? Perhaps, contempt and vulnerability or perhaps, strength thinking "I can do this because I have power to do whatever I want.”
- We see that God’s hand is not short to provide or to give “even more.” However, what’s more honorable is to OBEY THE LORD and NOT DESPISE HIS WORD.
- Had David reassessed what he already had [riches, power, possessions] and thanked God for them and/or asked Him for more, God would’ve also given it to him since he was pleasing God in [all] that he did. Yet, David chose to disobey [catered to temptations and the lust of his flesh].
Lessons:
Count your blessings. Be grateful and faithful. Ask God if there’s a need [He’s not short-handed]. Be pleasing to Him in all things. Refrain from entertaining the temptations that may come as a temporary pleaser.
>>>
I am counting my blessings and continually being grateful and faithful to the Lord in all the things I do. No matter what comes along my way, I know that God is not short-handed to add on the things that I already have. I will just obey because He will give as He sees fit.
>>>>
Lord, thank you for a wonderful reminder. Thank you for the wonderful blessings you have already given to me – family, ministry, friends, and the temporary possessions that I have at the moment. I pray that You help me to be faithful in all that I do. I want to serve You. Empower me to say NO to the temptations that come along the way. Guide me O Lord and may You be my guide in all things as I make you to be that in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
