1 Kings 20:36-37
36 So the prophet said, “Because you have not obeyed the LORD, as soon as you leave me a lion will kill you.” And after the man went away, a lion found him and killed him.
37 The prophet found another man and said, “Strike me, please.” So the man struck him and wounded him.
I found it interesting that it was noted how the prophet asked for someone to strike him without giving its full reasons to the one whom he asked. Then v. 36 tells us that the one who didn't strike (or did what the prophet asked him to do) got killed for disobedience.
The second person did what was asked and nothing happened to him and the prophet went on to do his job - to rebuke king Ahab.
Lesson to learn:
Even if we do not entirely understand why we need to do something without any explanations, know that it is all part of the big picture. As long as we know that what we are doing is in obedience to whom God has placed over us, then we must trust that God has anointed them to have looked beyond the surface. The things they ask us to do may seem illogical at times, but we know that we can take part in the bigger picture by being obedient.
Yup - many times I've had to obey regardless of not understanding what the ultimate purpose is for something my leaders ask of me to do. I will obey anyways and just trust the Lord. As long as what they are asking of me is not sinful, then I know that I have to obey.
Lord, please give me a trustful heart that will continually obey regardless of me not understanding the bigger picture as of yet. Please guide me and strengthen me that it will come easy on me to do it. Give me a big heart to help and not do things with a grumbling why-are-we-doing-this attitude. Thank you again for reminding me of this Lord. I offer to you this day. In Jesus' name, amen.
