The Tongue

James 3:4-6

4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

That’s why Jesus was always careful about the words he let out.  While man, just allows the tongue to say anything when we know that it could lead the course of our lives.  We need to make sure what comes out of our mouths are something that will lead us to glorify the Lord.  Don’t underestimate what the tongue can do because it can set our course.

I will watch what I say or the course of my words because it will set the course of anything – whether the day or the month or a relationship, etc.  Always using my tongue to bring glory to God in everything and allowing my tongue to be used for what pleases the Lord – whether it be an encouragement to someone or a group of people or to bring life to someone.

Lord, I know that You will help me and give me the right heart as I delight myself in you.  Guide my tongue that in all that I will say, it will bring honor to You.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
