Jeremiah 43:1-4
1 When Jeremiah had finished telling the people all the words of the LORD their God—everything the LORD had sent him to tell them— 2 Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the arrogant men said to Jeremiah, “You are lying! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to settle there.’ 3 But Baruch son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over to the Babylonians,[a] so they may kill us or carry us into exile to Babylon.”
4 So Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers and all the people disobeyed the LORD’s command to stay in the land of Judah.
What caused the people of Israel to disobey the word of the Lord after their eagerness to hear for God’s guidance and direction for their decisions?
UNBELIEF – v. 2 ““You are lying! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to settle there.’”
We doubt those who are either sent by God or directly from what the Word of God says.
UNBELIEF is one cause that we would disobey the Lord and be less fearful of Him.
DISOBEDIENCE is one cause that man would be less fearful or worse, not be fearful of God anymore.
Unbelief and Disobedience are both our enemies that we must not allow the devil to inject in our thoughts and action.
Counterpart = BELIEVE AND OBEY what the God says whether through people, impression in our inner spirit or through His living Word.
When I am tempted to doubt the Lord, I must remember that His Word will never fail (Jeremiah 44:28b - “Then the whole remnant of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will stand—mine or theirs.)
GOD’S IS TRUE to HIS WORD!
My obedience to the Lord will increase my fear of Him. I must continually believe His Word!
// Lord, help me to not be driven by my emotions – and to just belief what you say and obey it and vice versa. Even if I may not see the results after obeying, I know that my belief (faith in You) will cause me to see Your work. I will not doubt You Lord. Help me to have the energy to receive the grace to obey YOU in every aspect of my life. I lift up to You this day and everyday. In Jesus’ name, amen.
