So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them. ” So David took them off. Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. (I Samuel 17:38-40 NKJV)
He didn't use the expected outfit as to one going to fight - especially against a Goliath.
God has equipped David in the area of his expertise to prepare him for what was ahead. David used what he knew best - staff, stones, and sling and the Name of God Almighty! What may be normal and expected in this world, is not always the way to defeat a Goliath. God knows how to navigate through what we have.
I can use what I have to defeat the Goliaths in my life. I may not need to sometimes use the expected and normal "weapons" but only those that God has already used to equip me (my stones, sling, and staff). I need to trust God in the way David did.... Fully and without fear.
Lord, I trust in you but help me to fully trust. Please help me to see what you are really leading me towards because I am excited to know your ways to defeat the Goliaths in the future. In Jesus' name, amen.
