Proofs of Discipleship

John 8
v. 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

v. 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

The proof of a Christ-follower:

- will never walk in darkness
- one who holds on to Christ's teaching

// Never turning back to our dark lives proves our true discipleship to Christ.  Holding on to the teaching of Christ proves our true discipleship to Christ.

Have I been walking in the light?
Have I been holding on to Christ's teachings?

Praise Him for by His grace, I have turned away from my old dark life.  As much as I am able, by the grace of God, I hunger and thirst to always hold on to the teachings of Christ.

// I will continue to walk in the light.  Always exposing everything to the light (motives, plans, actions, etc.)  I will continue to hold on to the teachings of Christ (His commands, His ways, His direction, etc.)

Lord, I am grateful to be called your child.  Only by Your grace that I am able to testify in my spirit that I belong to You.  I want to follow you and live in your light at all times.  I want to hold on to your teachings and live it out.  Please help me when times get tough.  I will remain in You.  In Jesus' name, amen.
